Paul Graney always thought of himself as just another working man. Yet he led an extraordinary life in turbulent times. In the 1920s, he joined thousands of others on the road in search of work. He took part in Hunger Marches, fought against Mosely’s fascists, joined the Kinder Scout mass trespasses and travelled to Germany to witness the rise of Hitler. In another guise, he was active in agit prop theatre, working with Joan Littlewood and helping Walter Greenwood, author of Love on the Dole. Later, he gained national recognition as a collector of local songs and stories. A fascinating read.
