Description
Art Deco was the exciting and popular new style of the Age of Jazz - the 1920's and 30's. As a movement and style, it has been the subject of many books and exhibitions but this is the first major publication devoted to British pottery and porcelain in the Art Deco style. As a period it is notable for many significant developments. Women for the first time took a leading role in designing for the ceramics industry. Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper became household names and long-established factories like Wedgewood and Minton came out with sharp new designs. They competed alongside a host of newer potteries: Poole, Carltonware, Crown Devon, Burgess and Leigh as well as many others all contributing to a rich and diverse heritage. The Art Deco wares made by all these factories are thus now increasingly collectable and this book includes both these popular types and many rare models which have not previously been illustrated in modern times.
