Description
Born in 1805, William Gawin Herdman, or WG, is responsible for some of the most memorable and historically valuable pictorial records of Liverpool that exist today. Working throughout his life, along with his son William, he produced numerous watercolours of Liverpool and the Wirral depicting life in the late 18th Century through to the 1860's, often copying earlier, and now lost, works. Along with many published volumes of lithographed views, these images are understandably an invaluable resource for historians of Liverpool's urban past. Kay Parrot's book is a personal selection from the watercolour collections in the Liverpool Record Office and the Williamson Art Gallery.
